Mountain Road Technology Park Defeated!

May 29, 2026
By: Colleen Bohlman

Residents and neighbors were pleasantly surprised last week when the Hanover Board of Supervisors voted 4-3 to deny data center developer Tract’s application to create the Mountain Road Technology Park on Rt 33 adjacent to Henrico County.

Friends of Hanover, a grassroots organization that has been working tirelessly to educate citizens, Hanover employees and decision makers sent the following out via email:

“After hours of public comment, the board voted to deny the Mountain Rd/33 Data Center.

  • Prichard/Ashland – No
  • Floyd/Chickahominy – No
  • Stoneman/Beaverdam – No
  • Davis/Henry – No
  • Herzberg/Cold Harbor – Yes
  • Dibble/South Anna – Yes
  • Hudson/Mechanicsville – Yes

This is a huge win for all of us and would not have happened without the one on one meeting, the turnout at rallies, the consistent and sustained public opposition, and letters to supervisors, and the hard work of so many different organizers who have joined forces to fight these data centers.

On CBS6s page you can find full clips of the supervisors comments in support of/against the data center:

Here is a couple of news stories about last night:

Thank you all for showing up for Hanover — it paid off. “

Neighbors For Change salutes you Friends of Hanover – your work is citizen advocacy at it’s finest!

Sadly, they can’t rest on their laurels as there are more data center proposals in the pipeline for Hanover County. We can’t stop the mess in Henrico’s East End as those have already been approved, but we can help our neighbors to the West.

Follow Stop Hanover Data Centers on Facebook and consider donating to help fund their fight – these folks are doing the work and stopping the data centers! Since this decision two data center applicants have pulled their Hanover project proposals!

“I want a better society for my kids. I’m passionate about healthcare. I’m a physician, my wife is in public health and the way healthcare is going right now is very frightening and I just want a candidate who is willing to go against what is happening on the national level. The vaccination piece is definitely scary, I think it’s really important to stay up to date with those things, the pandemic changed so much about how people trust the healthcare system, and while there are a lot of ways the healthcare system needs to improve, leadership from the top down needs to be solid and it’s just not solid right now”.

“I’m mostly concerned about the SNAP funding. Because in my profession, I know some people through Virginia Cooperative Extension who were doing nutrition education for SNAP beneficiaries, all of those programs were cut as kind of a ripple effect from the (Big, Beautiful) bill, but they lost those programs, which is important to me – nutrition information. I’m concerned about out healthcare, I’m concerned about what’s happening with immigration right now and for me personally, I’m soon going on Medicare, and I’m concerned with what’s happening with that. Things are so divisive, you can’t even really talk about issues in a calm way”.

“I am passionate about gun safety regulation. I am passionate about enforcement of the anti-trust laws. Those are two big ones for me. And also intelligent AI regulation and data center/environmental regulations. I have concern about the kind of Wild West style lack of regulation of artificial intelligence. I think we need to take a systematic thoughtful approach so that we targeted AI rather than just an uncontrolled profit for a few big companies”.
