Meet the Democratic Candidates Hoping to Unseat Wittman in 2026

July 28, 2025
By: Heather Massey

Democrats running against Wittman.

Updated Sept. 15: Nine Democrats are now in the race to unseat the GOP incumbent. Five are profiled below and four are covered here. Amanda Pohl has suspended her campaign.

In a major development, six Democrats have entered the 2026 primary race to challenge incumbent Congressman Rob Wittman (R VA1). This is significant news not only because of the number of candidates in play but also because the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) named Rob Wittman as one of the most vulnerable Republicans in the country, highlighting this seat as a top pick-up opportunity for Democrats seeking to reclaim the House majority. Denise Good Troubl

“What brings me out is the future of my grandchildren and my great grandchildren and bad things for the working class. People fought so hard to get us where we are, I was hoping we’d never go back, we’d just keep moving forward and make it better. But we’re going backward, and it’s getting worse.”

Amy Good Trouble

“I object to what’s going on. Every morning I wake up and open the newspaper like ‘What fresh hell will there be today?’ And there are so many issues that I’m absolutely horrified by that it’s hard to list them all. My partner is on Medicaid and they craftily cut it – for after the midterms. He has a large number of health issues, and it’s going to be very difficult for him to get healthcare. It’ll be really tough.”
