A group of Buddhist monks participating in a Walk for Peace are expected to arrive in Virginia next month.
The monk’s started their walk in Texas in October and have been marching across the southern U.S. on their way to Washington, DC.
The walk highlights Buddhism’s long tradition of activism for peace. The 2,300-mile walk spreads messages of unity , compassion, mindfulness and non-violence.
The monk’s along with their faithful dog, Aloka, are currently in North Carolina. They will make it to the Richmond area in early February.
The group is drawing large crowds along their journey.
They have also amassed a huge audience on social media. You can follow them on Facebook at “Walk for Peace”. Aloka even has his own Facebook page “Aloka the Peace Dog”. On Instagram , they can be found at “walkforpeace.usa” and “alokathepeacedog”.
