HHHunt Proposes Industrial Data Center Beside Wyndham

September 8, 2025
By: Heather Massey

Back in June, Neighbors For Change covered the history, impact, and status of data center proliferation in Virginia and more locally, in Eastern Henrico County. Now there’s news of a possible data center that, if built, would be adjacent to Western Henrico near Wyndham.

Richmond BizSense reported that HHHunt eyes 10-building, 400-acre data center campus beside Wyndham:

“The company, which developed Wyndham four decades ago, has filed plans for a 10-building data center campus on over 400 acres it owns or controls across the county line in Hanover, including the nearby Hunting Hawk Golf Club.

Filed with Hanover last month, the plans are HHHunt’s latest attempt to develop the site since losing a court battle with Henrico County in 2019 over a disputed connector road to Wyndham that the company said was vital for a residential development it had planned for the Hanover property.”

Read more detail about the plans for 3.9 million square feet of development including a private well water system, waste water treatment and electrical substation at Richmond BizSense.

This news about HHHunt’s plan reveals the ongoing tension between the need to build more housing in Virginia and boost the state’s economy with businesses like data centers.

What’s next? Regarding the proposed data center, Hanover Supervisor Sue Dibble stated, “As this moves through the process, we’re going to test the waters, so to speak, with our constituents.”

“What brings me out is the future of my grandchildren and my great grandchildren and bad things for the working class. People fought so hard to get us where we are, I was hoping we’d never go back, we’d just keep moving forward and make it better. But we’re going backward, and it’s getting worse.”

“I object to what’s going on. Every morning I wake up and open the newspaper like ‘What fresh hell will there be today?’ And there are so many issues that I’m absolutely horrified by that it’s hard to list them all. My partner is on Medicaid and they craftily cut it – for after the midterms. He has a large number of health issues, and it’s going to be very difficult for him to get healthcare. It’ll be really tough.”
