Spotlight: Wittman Watch

May 30, 2026
By: Heather Massey

If you’re fed up with Congressman Rob Wittman’s abysmal record as CD1’s representative, you’ll be glad to learn there’s a group determined to hold him accountable: Wittman Watch.

Wittman Watch is a group of residents from Virginia’s First District who are keeping “a close eye on Representative Rob Wittman. As our Congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives, he has failed us for too long.” Founded in August 2025, this group of volunteers chronicles Wittman’s failings as a congressman and his troublesome support of President Trump.

Wittman Watch exists to:

  • Hold Wittman to account for his words and actions
  • Show First District Virginians how they’re being willfully misled through lies, omissions, and misdirection in Wittman’s communications
  • Help everyone understand how VA-01 can secure better representation in Congress, and who’s running to deliver it
  • Create opportunities for conversation on the issues and priorities in our district
  • Illuminate the ways in which the silent complicity of Trump’s enablers works in practice, so other House districts across the country can benefit from our work

How Wittman Watch works

Wittman Watch documents the evidence of Rob Wittman’s harmful track record in multiple ways. They post articles on their website. Topics range from Wittman’s reproductive healthcare hypocrisy, to his failure to defend the Constitution and uphold his oath of office, and to how he spreads disinformation about H.R.1 (a.k.a. “the big beautiful bill”). Want the articles delivered to your inbox? Sign up for the Wittman Watch newsletter (two emails per week).

They offer a guide on the most effective ways to contact Wittman. The Wittman Watch Take Action page lists ways you can obtain better representation for CD1. They’re also active on social media, where they hold Wittman accountable for neglecting veterans, lining his pockets with Big Energy stock revenues while his constituents struggle with soaring energy prices, and voting to continue the Iran War, among many others.

Wittman Watch is your premier source for all things Congressman Rob Wittman. As we approach the midterm elections, arm yourself with this knowledge to help spread the word about why we can’t afford Rob Wittman.

“I want a better society for my kids. I’m passionate about healthcare. I’m a physician, my wife is in public health and the way healthcare is going right now is very frightening and I just want a candidate who is willing to go against what is happening on the national level. The vaccination piece is definitely scary, I think it’s really important to stay up to date with those things, the pandemic changed so much about how people trust the healthcare system, and while there are a lot of ways the healthcare system needs to improve, leadership from the top down needs to be solid and it’s just not solid right now”.

“I’m mostly concerned about the SNAP funding. Because in my profession, I know some people through Virginia Cooperative Extension who were doing nutrition education for SNAP beneficiaries, all of those programs were cut as kind of a ripple effect from the (Big, Beautiful) bill, but they lost those programs, which is important to me – nutrition information. I’m concerned about out healthcare, I’m concerned about what’s happening with immigration right now and for me personally, I’m soon going on Medicare, and I’m concerned with what’s happening with that. Things are so divisive, you can’t even really talk about issues in a calm way”.

“I am passionate about gun safety regulation. I am passionate about enforcement of the anti-trust laws. Those are two big ones for me. And also intelligent AI regulation and data center/environmental regulations. I have concern about the kind of Wild West style lack of regulation of artificial intelligence. I think we need to take a systematic thoughtful approach so that we targeted AI rather than just an uncontrolled profit for a few big companies”.
