N4C Spotlight: Yucel & Sheryl

May 12, 2025
By: Staff Writer

Why are you a Neighbor For Change?

“I’m from Turkey. I see everything from there being repeated here. The protests – there are millions of people; There are books by people who are from Turkey from the past 5, 6, 7 years and it’s basically about what these dictator-like people do to turn people against each other and at the same time, undermine democracy. In the larger sense of this, we’re trying to see what we can do to make people more aware. To try to change political perspectives from a grassroots level”. – Yucel

What do you want Americans to know about what you experienced in Turkey?

“The longer we wait, the more difficult it gets.” – Yucel

“I’m horrified every day. So much of this has a compounding effect to international policy. I feel compelled that we have to do something, but we don’t know what to do. We’re looking for leadership. We’re looking for community. And we’re hoping that starts here.” – Sheryl

“What brings me out is the future of my grandchildren and my great grandchildren and bad things for the working class. People fought so hard to get us where we are, I was hoping we’d never go back, we’d just keep moving forward and make it better. But we’re going backward, and it’s getting worse.”

Amy Good Trouble

“I object to what’s going on. Every morning I wake up and open the newspaper like ‘What fresh hell will there be today?’ And there are so many issues that I’m absolutely horrified by that it’s hard to list them all. My partner is on Medicaid and they craftily cut it – for after the midterms. He has a large number of health issues, and it’s going to be very difficult for him to get healthcare. It’ll be really tough.”
