August 26, 2025
By: Staff Writer

Want more progressive community radio in your life? WRWK 93.9 FM might be for you.

TheWorkFM 93.9 is a progressive community radio station “For the People, By the People.” The all-volunteer, non-commercial station’s live stream includes community radio with progressive news and discussions, local programming, local music, and a space for women’s voices.

WRWK 93.9 FM “started with individuals who wanted to sponsor more and better conversations with each other.” Its mission is to use “collective intelligence” to solve problems in our democracy. In other words, “We provide the intelligent conversation, you find the answers.”

During live broadcasts, listeners can call (804) 464-1089 to share their thoughts. WRWK also video streams live programs on Facebook, where listeners can “join the conversation and post feedback.” Watch the station’s livestream of the 7/3/25 Rob Wittman “Big Ugly Betrayal” protest.

The non-profit Synergy Project, Inc. runs the station, which is based out of Midlothian, Virginia. The Federal Communications Commission assigned WRWK its call letters on July 14, 2016. WRWK invites feedback/questions emailed to info@theworkfm.org. Learn more on the station’s About page.

Denise Good Troubl

“What brings me out is the future of my grandchildren and my great grandchildren and bad things for the working class. People fought so hard to get us where we are, I was hoping we’d never go back, we’d just keep moving forward and make it better. But we’re going backward, and it’s getting worse.”

Amy Good Trouble

“I object to what’s going on. Every morning I wake up and open the newspaper like ‘What fresh hell will there be today?’ And there are so many issues that I’m absolutely horrified by that it’s hard to list them all. My partner is on Medicaid and they craftily cut it – for after the midterms. He has a large number of health issues, and it’s going to be very difficult for him to get healthcare. It’ll be really tough.”
