N4C Helping Dems Get On the Ballot

January 8, 2026
By: Heather Massey

More than 75 people came out last week to sign petitions that help get Democratic candidates on the ballot for the primary in June. Neighbors for Change hosted the event at Twin Hickory Library.

Right now, in VA1, there are eight candidates looking to square off in the primary. The seat is currently held by Congressman Rob Wittman (R VA1) who faces a lot of criticism for voting with President Trump continuously. Democrats are trying to flip that seat come November.

Debbie says, “We need a new Congress representing us. I’m just grateful that there is enough interest right now, and people who want to fight back on issues that matter and to run, hoping to get elected and represent us the way we should be represented.”

Two Democratic candidates are challenging incumbent Senator Mark Warner in the primary.

The signed petitions will help each candidate secure a spot on the ballot. David says he is looking for change, “I just want a better society for my kids. I’m looking for someone who can listen and fight for our community as opposed to whatever the president wants them to do.”r some of society’s most vulnerable members to make their voices heard.

“What brings me out is the future of my grandchildren and my great grandchildren and bad things for the working class. People fought so hard to get us where we are, I was hoping we’d never go back, we’d just keep moving forward and make it better. But we’re going backward, and it’s getting worse.”

“I object to what’s going on. Every morning I wake up and open the newspaper like ‘What fresh hell will there be today?’ And there are so many issues that I’m absolutely horrified by that it’s hard to list them all. My partner is on Medicaid and they craftily cut it – for after the midterms. He has a large number of health issues, and it’s going to be very difficult for him to get healthcare. It’ll be really tough.”
