Henrico water pipe breaks attributed to broader water crisis

February 7, 2025
By: Staff Writer

The recent breaks in county water pipes are largely attributed to the broader water crisis affecting the area, which stemmed from a power outage at Richmond’s water treatment plant.  Rapid changes in water pressure and stress on older pipes, particularly during cold temperatures, led to a significant number of breaks across the county impacting traffic and some residents.

“What brings me out is the future of my grandchildren and my great grandchildren and bad things for the working class. People fought so hard to get us where we are, I was hoping we’d never go back, we’d just keep moving forward and make it better. But we’re going backward, and it’s getting worse.”

Amy Good Trouble

“I object to what’s going on. Every morning I wake up and open the newspaper like ‘What fresh hell will there be today?’ And there are so many issues that I’m absolutely horrified by that it’s hard to list them all. My partner is on Medicaid and they craftily cut it – for after the midterms. He has a large number of health issues, and it’s going to be very difficult for him to get healthcare. It’ll be really tough.”
