Goochland TOD Meetings 10/7!

October 5, 2025
By: Colleen Bohlman

Plan to attend the Goochland BOS meetings on Tuesday October 7, at 3PM and 6PM. Both meetings will allow 3 minutes of public comment so choose the option that works best for you. Goochland Admin Building, 1800 Sandy Hook Rd, Goochland, VA 23063

Background: On 9/25/2025, The Goochland Planning Commission voted 3-2 to approve the TOD Overlay amendment with the recommendation that the Board of Supervisors consider:

  • Energy generation facilities (SMRs, Gas Peaking, etc) be by CUP only
  • In current A2 zoned spaces, data centers should be allowed adjacent to residential lots with 500 foot buffer (instead of 300) with CUP required for less.
  • Limiting height for data centers next to residential lots to 80 feet
  • Reducing decibel levels to lower than 65/day and 60 /night (no specific recommendation set and no addressing generator testing

Residents in attendance were vocally unhappy and called out to the commission during their discussion. At one point, the planning commissioner for district 4, Curt Pituck shouted “I don’t have to explain myself to you!” As you can imagine, that didn’t go over well.

You can also Email your comments to: BOSCOMMENT@GOOCHLANDVA.US Please keep your communications logical and civil – these are public servants and you are asking them to consider deferring or voting against a proposal. Ranting won’t make a difference, but showing them the negative impact could.

The Board of Supervisors will vote on the TOD on November 7th, 2025.

“What brings me out is the future of my grandchildren and my great grandchildren and bad things for the working class. People fought so hard to get us where we are, I was hoping we’d never go back, we’d just keep moving forward and make it better. But we’re going backward, and it’s getting worse.”

Amy Good Trouble

“I object to what’s going on. Every morning I wake up and open the newspaper like ‘What fresh hell will there be today?’ And there are so many issues that I’m absolutely horrified by that it’s hard to list them all. My partner is on Medicaid and they craftily cut it – for after the midterms. He has a large number of health issues, and it’s going to be very difficult for him to get healthcare. It’ll be really tough.”
